DDA draw of lots for 15,000 flats mid-April

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will conduct a draw of lots for its latest housing scheme in the second week of April. A final date has not been decided yet, but depending on the availability of neutral observers, the draw will be fixed for sometime in the second week of April, a senior DDA official told Newsline.

The new housing scheme, with 15,574 flats up for grabs, was announced in November — application forms were sold between November 24 and December 24. In addition to the 15,574 HIG, MIG, and LIG flats across the city, 699 Janta flats are also up for sale.

Even though nearly 13.5 lakh forms were sold, DDA eventually received over 7.8 lakh forms. After weeding out incomplete and duplicate forms, the DDA has narrowed the number of applicants down to 7.4 lakh. “We will upload the names of all qualified applicants on our website a week or so before the draw, so people can be certain that they are being included in the draw,” the DDA official said. Applicants will be asked to get in touch with the DDA and rectify any errors in the final list before the draw is conducted.

The last time the DDA conducted a draw of lots in November 2008, the result was widely debated and the process of allotment was put on hold for nearly a year as various inquiries were conducted. The DDA was eventually given a clean chit, and the system of the current draw of lots remains exactly the same.

“Our draw of lots is a precise and scientific system. In fact, the authority has often assisted other states in conducting similar draws. The draw will be conducted in the presence of three neutral judges,” the official said.

List of applicants of DDA housing scheme 2010 on its website

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has uploaded on its website the names of all eligible candidates who have filed applications for its latest housing scheme. The authority has received over 7 lakh applications for around 16,000 flats.

DDA officials said the names have been put on the website after verifying the details as submitted in the forms. This will help the applicants check the status of their request. Moreover, those whose forms have been rejected can also follow the matter up with DDA officials.

“ If any detail in the form is incorrect, applicants can contact the officials concerned,” DDA spokesperson Neemo Dhar said.

The computerized draw will be held in April. The results will be displayed on the DDA website. Allottees will be dispatched intimation letters. A waiting list of 600 candidates will also be prepared.

The Delhi Development Authority was created in 1957 under the provisions of the Delhi Development Act “to promote and secure the development of Delhi “

- DDA has played a vital role in the orderly-yet-rapid development of Delhi. The city has become the residence of choice for more than 11 million people and this number continues to increase.

- Delhi became the focus of Lal Qilagovernment activity in 1911 when the British shifted the capital from Kolkata to Delhi.

- The initial location proposed for the Capital was to the north of the Northern Ridge. It was later changed to the present location around Raisina Hills.

- Renowned town planners Edward Lutyens and Herbert Baker planned the city of New Delhi in the year 1912.

- Delhi in 1937In 1922 a tiny Nazul Office, comprising of 10 to 12 officials, was set up in the Collectorate of Delhi, the first authority to regulate the planned development of the city.

- In 1937, the Nazul office was upgraded to an Improvement Trust, constituted under the provisions of the United Provinces Improvement Act, 1911, to control building operations and regulate land usage.

- India’s Independence in 1947 and resultant migration increased Delhi’s population from 7 lakhs to 17 lakhs by 1951. Open spaces were occupied by migrants. Civic services virtually collapsed. Delhi Improvement Trust and Municipal Body, the two local bodies at that time, were not adequately equipped to cope up with the changing scenario.
